Introduction

Effective 1st October 2025, the Czech Republic have tightened the reporting obligations of employers hiring foreign nationals. What has changed?

Employers were previously required to report the start of employment of a foreign national with the Czech Labour Office on the same day as their commencement. As part of the amendments to the Employment Act No. 435/2004 Coll.), employers are now required to notify the authorities at least 1 day before the date of commencement of their duties.

This change brings the Czech Republic in line with the common European Union practices regarding the employment of foreign nationals.

Failure to meet the reporting requirement within the set timeframe will be considered as the newly defined administrative offence “unreported work” and employers may be fined by up to CZK 3,000,000.

What to expect /impact?

Employers should amend their processes to ensure timely reporting regarding foreign national employees and adjust their onboarding processes and timeframes accordingly. This new rule does not impact other reporting requirements in relation to changes, residence permit renewals and employment terminations.
