Antigua and Barbuda Suspend Issuing Work Permits

Written by Leanne Cottrell | Nov 2, 2020 5:02:00 PM

To further encourage the hiring of local workers, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda has announced a suspension of initial work permits for foreign nationals until further notice.

The Caribbean Islands have been hit hard by the economic fallout and decline in tourism due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting travel restrictions. The suspension of initial work permits follows quickly on the heels of another initiative designed to bolster the region’s economy: The Nomad Digital Residence (NDR) program announced earlier this year. The NDR is designed to encourage non-nationals who are employed or self-employed in a country other than Antigua and Barbuda and their dependents to live and work in the country for up to two years.

The NDR visa does not allow the holder or dependents to work for any company or organization doing business in Antigua and Barbuda.

Who is affected?

All companies wishing to apply for work permits for foreign nationals in Antigua and Barbuda.
