As Australia approaches 80% vaccination rate the government is preparing to ease the current COVID-19 related overseas travel restrictions. Following the completion of trials for home quarantine in New South Wales and South Australia, it is expected that states and territories that are prepared to do so, will implement a 7-day home quarantine period for Australian citizens and permanent residents entering the country from overseas. Entry will only be permissible for those who are fully vaccinated with a vaccine approved for use in Australia or recognized by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).
This is a major movement in enabling more Australian nationals to return home sooner (subject to having the correct vaccinations) and will also enable fully vaccinated Australian citizens and permanent residents to travel overseas without having to apply for a travel exemption.
Border controls for temporary visa holders such as the 482 and 400 remain unchanged.
