Australia Electronic Travel Authority Will Allow Eligible Passport Holders to Apply for an ETA using the ETA app

Written by Leanne Cottrell | Jun 9, 2022 2:16:06 PM

From April 6, 2022, all Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) eligible passport holders intending to visit Australia for a holiday or for business purposes, under subclass 601, must apply for their visa via the Australia ETA application form on the ETA app. They will then be permitted to visit Australia as often as they like in a 12-month period for stays of up to 3 months at a time.

This applies for genuine visitors who intend to stay temporarily in Australia and obey any condition and stay period attached to their visa. Individuals found not to be genuine visitors will have their ETA cancelled.

Applicants will first need to download the ETA app before applying for the entry visa. Each family member will need to submit a separate application.

If an individual is ineligible or unable to apply using the Australian ETA app, applications can be made for an alternative visa through ImmiAccount. European passport holders may be eligible for an eVisitor (subclass 651) visa and other passport holders may be eligible for a Visitor “subclass 600” visa.

In most cases the individual will be notified immediately of the result of their ETA application. Advice on the submission, either; confirmation it has been granted along with the grant number, request for further information, or refusal, will be in writing via email.
